Eye Health & Optometry: What is 20/20 Vision?

    Last updated 2 years ago

20/20 vision is a term that was invented by Dr. Snellen over 110 years ago.

This video provides an overview of 20/20 vision. Visual acuity is a recognition test designed to determine an individual’s viewing distance. The first 20 value refers to a 20-foot viewing distance, or optical infinity, while the second number refers to the size of the letter on the chart. From 20 feet away, a 20-size letter is 8.75mm tall. Learn what it means if you have 20/40 vision in this full clip.

Dr. Rothman and his staff are simply the best!! They are extremely friendly and made me feel like I was their only patient. All of my questions were answered very professionally and my mind was put at ease by the time I decided to go through with the procedure. I ended up having the Lasik procedure done last Saturday and on my Sunday checkup, I had... More

Who Can Benefit from LASIK Surgery?

    Last updated 2 years ago

While many refractive errors and vision conditions can be treated through the use of prescription eye glasses or contact lenses, many individuals prefer a more permanent solution. Fortunately, LASIK surgeons offer laser treatment options to help individuals suffering from refractive errors.

Patients who are at least 18 years old and are suffering from mild to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism are typically good candidates for LASIK surgery. However, candidates should be free from any ocular health issues such as ocular herpes, cataracts, progressive myopia, unstable refractive errors, or keratoconus. Ideal candidates should also be free of other major health conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes or inflammatory disease. Women who are currently pregnant should not undergo laser eye surgery.

In order for LASIK to be effective, it is also important for patients to have sufficient corneal thickness and pupil sizes no larger than 8mm in diameter. As a good rule of thumb, patients should also have a stable prescription for at least one year prior to the procedure.

Individuals who can benefit from LASIK surgery are those who:

    • dislike their dependency on glasses for clear vision
    • do not like wearing contact lenses or are not candidates for removable contacts
    • feel their overall appearance is improved without prescription glasses
    • worry about losing or breaking their eyewear
    • are hindered or restricted by their corrective lenses during everyday activities or when participating in sports
    • adjust easily to change

The best way to determine if you are a candidate for laser vision correction is to set up an appointment with your LASIK surgeon. The LASIK surgeons with LASIK of Nevada will help you determine if laser eye surgery is the right option for you. • I had a great experience with Lasik of Nevada. The staff is always friendly when I walk through the door, Dr. Rothman is not only great at his job, but he is also super nice whenever I see him; oh and best of all I now have 20/20 vision. Before I could barely see my own face in the mirror and now I can read street signs while I'm driving my car... More
