    How Is Astigmatism Corrected?

    Last updated 1 year ago

Astigmatism is an eye condition that results in blurred vision caused by an irregularly shaped cornea. Typically, corneas are spherical in shape, resembling a basketball. In people with astigmatism, corneas are oblong or football-shaped, causing light to be focused unevenly when it enters the eye.

Astigmatism can be corrected through laser vision correction. During this procedure, a laser reshapes the cornea by either steepening or flattening it to make it more spherical. Another alternative for correcting astigmatism is astigmatic keratotomy, or AK, during which smaller amounts of astigmatism are reduced through incisions made in the periphery of the cornea. The incisions cause the cornea to assume a basketball shape, thus reducing astigmatism and improving vision.

A Look at How Lasik of Nevada Can Treat Your Dry Eyes

    Last updated 1 year ago

Dry eyes can be both frustrating and painful, causing itchiness, irritation, and burning in the eyes. For those suffering from evaporative dry eye disease because of a blockage of eyelid glands, finding relief from chronic symptoms can be challenging. Here at LASIK of Nevada, we are proud to offer an innovative and effective new treatment option for patients experiencing dry eyes: the LipiFlow Treatment System.

What is the LipiFlow Treatment System?
The LipiFlow Treatment System is a new medical technology that uses localized heat and pressure therapy. Because evaporative dry eye disease is most commonly caused by blocked eyelid glands that lead to a lipid deficiency in tears, removing the obstruction or blockage is integral to alleviating dryness and discomfort. With the LipiFlow System, your doctor will perform an in-office procedure, unblocking the clogged eyelid gland using a combination of heat and pressure therapy, allowing your body to continue the unhindered production of lipids that help prevent dry eyes.

How Effective is the LipiFlow System?
In one clinical study, over three-quarters of patients said their dry eye symptoms improved within one month of the LipiFlow treatment. Additionally, the LipiFlow Treatment System is pain-free, with most patients experiencing virtually no discomfort.

What Are the Long-Term Benefits of the LipiFlow System?
Those who suffer from evaporative dry eye disease may not fully realize how much the condition impacts their lives until the symptoms are either gone entirely or markedly improved. From being able to look at your computer screen for extended periods of time to no longer relying on warm compresses and drops for temporary relief, the LipiFlow Treatment System can help you enjoy life again, unencumbered by chronic dry eye symptoms.

Are you suffering from dry eyes? Call LASIK of Nevada at (702) 636-2010 to set up a consultation at our Las Vegas or Reno office. Causes of Dry Eye Syndrome

    Last updated 1 year ago

Have you been experiencing dry eye syndrome for some time now? Be sure to check out this video, which provides an informative introduction to the main causes of chronic dry eyes.

There are two primary causes of dry eye syndrome: evaporation and mucin deficiency. Evaporation in the eyes occurs from wind and activities where you don’t blink as often, such as working at the computer or doing intense reading. Issues with mucin production tend to occur with age. As people age, mucins, which are vital to a healthy tear film, may decrease in production, causing dry eyes.

Are you currently suffering from dry eye syndrome? At LASIK of Nevada, we offer an innovative new treatment for dry eyes called the LipiFlow Treatment System. Give us a call at (702) 475-3042 to schedule a consultation or to learn more about other services, including laser vision correction procedures.

    Answers to Your LASIK FAQs

    Last updated 1 year ago

LASIK vision correction is used to correct vision in people who experience nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. As one of the most popular elective medical procedures in the history of medicine, LASIK has successfully improved the vision of millions of people nationwide. Read on to find answers to LASIK frequently asked questions.

    How Effective Is LASIK?
The majority of patients who undergo LASIK eye surgery experience significant improvement in their vision. While LASIK does not guarantee 20/20 vision, many patients do see 20/20 after the procedure and some see even better. During U.S. clinical trials, 100% of patients experienced improved vision and 90% had their vision corrected to 20/40 or better.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of LASIK?
LASIK eye surgery is extremely safe. Though side effects are rare, they may include problems with glare, halos, dry eyes, and night vision.

    How Does LASIK Work?
LASIK is a laser vision correction procedure in which a laser reshapes the cornea of your eye in order to correct your vision. During LASIK, you will remain awake and your doctor will administer numbing drops in your eyes. A gentle eye lid holder will hold your eye open to prevent you from blinking, and your surgeon will then use a special instrument to create a tiny flap in a thin layer of your cornea. Beneath this layer, he will use the excimer laser to reshape the cornea. The flap is then put back in place, where it naturally reattaches to your eye without the need for stitches or bandages.

    What Is Wavefront Optimized LASIK?
The WaveLight® Optimized Laser is designed to work with each patient’s individual prescription and cornea while aiming to improve what nature originally designed. The proprietary Wavefront Optimized® treatment considers the unique curvature of the eye, preserving quality of vision and addressing the spherical distortions that may induce glare and affect night vision.
